450lbs - Orion Modular Stand and Fill Deer Feeder
The Orion 450 lb Modular Stand and Fill Deer Feeder holds 450 pounds of corn, runs on a solar-charged battery, and fills at 41 inches — flat-footed on the ground, no ladder and nothing lifted overhead. Built in Iron Mountain, Michigan, and covered by a 12-month Bear/Hog Proof Guarantee when anchored with the MAX Anchor Kit.
Most feeders punish you twice. Once when you wrestle a 50 lb bag up onto a tailgate or a ladder to fill them, and again when a bear flattens the thing in October and dumps four hundred dollars of corn on the ground.
The 450 answers both. It has the lowest fill height Orion builds — 41 inches, about kitchen-counter height — so you're lifting a bag to your waist instead of over your head. And the hexagonal base cage and powder-coated 16-gauge steel are why we're willing to guarantee it against bears at all.
Why hunters choose the 450
- The lowest lift in the lineup. 41 inches, filled standing on the ground. If your back or your shoulder is the reason you've been putting off a bigger feeder, this is the number that matters.
- A bear guarantee you can hold us to. Anchor it with the MAX Anchor Kit and Orion guarantees the feeder against bear and hog damage for 12 months. Not a marketing line — a written guarantee with one condition.
- It won't go over. Low profile and a wide stance. A bear that can't tip it can't dump your feed on the ground and eat it.
- Varmints get what's thrown, not what's stored. The Eliminator spinner plate and the base cage keep raccoons and squirrels out of the hopper.
- Set it and leave it. A 12V solar-charged battery on an 8Ah AGM cell — nothing to swap out mid-season. Six timer settings, up to six feeds a day.
- Read your level without opening anything. Oversized acrylic sight glass.
- Buy this size now, grow it later. Hopper extension kits add 300 lbs at a time, each with its own sight glass.
Is the 450 the right size for me?
Start here if you're running more than one feeder across a property, if you can get out to refill regularly, or if you'll be doing the filling alone. Hunting somewhere you only reach a few times a season? Step up to the 750 lb or the 1050 lb and cut down the trips.
How it works
Fill it from the ground through the top of the hopper. The 12V solar-charged battery keeps an 8Ah AGM cell topped up, so there's nothing to change out during the season. Set the programmable timer to feed up to six times a day, and The Eliminator spinner plate throws a consistent pattern out to roughly 60 feet, concentrated around 20.

FAQs
Which size Orion feeder should I buy?
Pick by how often you're willing to drive out and refill, not by herd size. The 450 lb holds about a month of feed for a typical two-feeder setup on a small property; the 750 stretches a back-forty through most of a season; the 1050 is for leases you visit rarely or properties with real pressure. All three take 300 lb hopper extensions, so you can size up later without buying a new feeder — start smaller if you're unsure.
Is the Orion feeder actually bear proof?
Yes — and when it's anchored with the MAX Anchor Kit, Orion guarantees it in writing for 12 months against bear and hog damage that disables the feeder. The hexagonal base cage and 16-gauge powder-coated steel are what keep them out of the hopper, and the low-profile wide stance is what stops a bear tipping it over to dump the feed on the ground. The MAX Anchor Kit — four pound-in anchors rated at 800 lbs of pull-out force each — is what makes the feeder immovable, and it's the one condition the guarantee carries. If you have bears, order it with the feeder.
How high do I have to lift the feed to fill it?
41 inches on the 450, 49 inches on the 750, and 58 inches on the 1050 — all filled standing flat-footed on the ground. No ladder, no balancing a 50 lb bag on a tailgate, no lifting overhead. That's the whole point of a stand-and-fill design: if your back or your shoulder is the reason you've been putting off a bigger feeder, this is the number that matters.
How far does the feeder spread feed?
Up to a 60-foot spread diameter, with the heaviest concentration around 20 feet. The Eliminator spinner plate is what controls the throw and keeps the pattern consistent shot to shot.
How is the feeder powered, and how often will it run?
A 12-volt solar-charged battery with an 8Ah AGM cell — no batteries to swap out mid-season. The programmable timer has six settings and will feed up to six times a day.
What kind of feed can I run through it?
Corn, soybeans, and other roasted, dried or filtered feeds of similar size and consistency — dried and filtered feed is far less likely to clog or mold. Use mixed feeds, protein pellets and additives with caution: pellets are sensitive to humidity and can swell and clump, which clogs or damages the motor on any mechanical feeder. Replacement parts are available if it happens.
Can I add capacity later?
Yes. Hopper extension kits add 300 lbs at a time to any Orion feeder, and each extension has its own oversized acrylic sight glass so you can still read your feed level at a glance. That's what "modular" means here — you buy the size you need now and grow it, rather than replacing the feeder.
Will raccoons and squirrels clean it out?
No. The base cage and the Eliminator plate mean varmints only get what the feeder actually throws — there's no open trough to sit in and no soft material to chew through. Coons and squirrels eat what hits the ground, not what's in the hopper.
Do I need the MAX Anchor Kit?
The feeder runs fine without it — but the 12-month Bear/Hog Proof Guarantee only applies to feeders anchored with it.That's the deciding factor. Four pound-in anchors at 800 lbs of pull-out force each make the feeder effectively immovable, and they're what the guarantee is written against. In bear or hog country, order it with the feeder rather than after the first incident. At $57 on a feeder over a thousand dollars, it's the cheapest insurance on the page.
What happens if a bear does disable it?
Orion covers feeder-disabling bear and hog interactions for 12 months from purchase, on top of the 10-year warranty against manufacturing defects. Contact us with photos and we'll sort the replacement parts.
How does the feeder ship, and what do I need to receive it?
LTL freight with lift-gate service and a delivery appointment — the carrier calls ahead so an adult can be there to accept it. Ships to residential and commercial addresses. 30-day returns for refund or exchange; you cover return shipping.
Is it legal to hunt over a feeder where I live?
It depends entirely on your state, and in some states on your county. Roughly 22 states allow hunting directly over a feeder, about 12 allow feeders but not as an in-season hunting aid, and about 15 ban feeding outright. Some states go further — Wisconsin prohibits automated feeders even where hand-scattered bait is legal in non-CWD counties, and Mississippi effectively requires above-ground feeders. Check your state wildlife agency before you buy, and remember that year-round feeding for herd health is legal in many places where hunting over bait is not.
